You are more than welcome to come to one of our monthly meetings to
meet us and learn more about us. If you plan on attending a meeting,
please be sure to make contact with us with a way of contacting you in
case the meeting changes date, time or place, or the rare occurrence of
a meeting being canceled.
To become an active member of the Shire Reaves, we ask that you
commit to attending four meetings throughout the year. Meetings are
held
on Saturdays, usually in the early afternoon. We use these meetings to
pass on information and training regarding our job as site safety. We
also cover historical lessons and training regarding our historical
perspective as a mercenary band in service to Her Royal Majesty, Queen
Elizabeth. (Long Live the Queen!) If you cannot attend a meeting, there
will be opportunities to make it up by attending work parties at the
Faire site, or by taking on projects for the guild.
Meetings are generally held in the Corvallis, Albany or Lebanon area as
this is central to where most of the guild members live.

Food prices, recruiting, personae, getting everyone into full garb at faire.
Conflict training, pillory cart repair.
Work Party at the site, Deuce and half (fire truck) windows, brakes, water pump.
Retreat? Waterloo? Maybe up at Art's place? Garb/Faire speak/Food money muster.
Conflict training / Garb II.
Both Booth Rosters finalized. Recommended 2 hour shifts. Phil gives Radio 101 class.
Meeting locations and times will be announced prior to each months meeting.
All meeting info will be posted at the Members Only section of the forum. All members be sure to check the Meeting thread for information. If you are a visitor, or want to attend a meeting and you aren't a current member, you may contact Webmaster@shirereaves.com for meeting information.

All Reaves are required to have a more uniform look to their
costuming/clothing. Most soldiers/mercenaries of the period would dress
similarly, in sensible, everyday clothes of English or northern
European style.
A few who had served in the armies of the Spanish or Italian would
dress in clothes cut more in those respective fashions.
Reaves whose’ personae are German Landsknecht would dress in
a manner all their own!
As the Shire Reaves colors are black and red, we are asking that all
Reaves have those colors incorporated into their clothing. Notice
Dhomnal
in the photo below wearing a red jerkin with black pants, boots and
shirt.

As you can see, he is readily identifiable as a soldier, and as a Reave.
The styles of clothing appropriate for the period are covered in many publications. There are also many guides and publications available to assist in not only clothing, but every other aspect of the Late Renaissance (Elizabethan) period. One terrific free source is the “Life in Elizabethan England: Compendium of Common Knowledge 1558 – 1603”. *More than 70 pages of insight into everyday life in Tudor England – food, occupations, games, pastimes, religion, fashion, manners, attitudes, and education in the time of Queen Elizabeth I and Shakespeare. A unique reference for writers, students, actors, re-enactors, and Renaissance enthusiasts, written by Maggie Secara and designed for the Web by Paula Kate Marmor.
*Taken from: Renaissance: The Elizabethan World web site. See their link on our Links page.
The
definitive clothing book for Shrewsbury is, “Elizabethan
Costuming for the Years 1550 to 1580” by Janet Winter and
Carolyn Shultz. We have a few copies of this book available for guild
members to browse, or you can purchase it at Amazon.com.
Do not be concerned if you do not have period clothing of your own. We
have people
in the guild that are willing and able to assist you in getting some
made. We also often have extra clothing lying around that you may
borrow to
get you through your first year as a Reave. This way there is little or
no cost to you to get outfitted for your first year to determine if
this is the right thing for you.

There are no “Membership” fees to become a Shire Reave. The only fees required are a nominal monetary commitment for food during Faire. There are at least three prepared meals each day during the run of Faire. This includes set up days, and a hearty breakfast before tear down on Monday. There is always food on the table and something cold (or hot if you prefer) to drink at the guild yard. The food fund monies pay for this.
The food fund fees are as follows and
are subject to change
as food prices increase:
Adult = $25
Child (16 and under) = $10
Family = $60
No family is expected to pay more than the maximum of $60.
